Upon arrival in Copacabana we will visit the Copacabana Basilica that boasts a mixture of renaissance and barroque styles. Later we will take a shared tourist boat and travel about an hour and a half to reach the south side of the Sun Island (Isla del Sol). This mystic place was considered the cradle of creation by the Inca culture and their descendants. Legend tells that on this island Manco Capac and his wife Mama Ocllo initiated the Inca dynasties and from here they went on to found Cuzco.
During our stay at the Sun Island (Isla del Sol), we will visit the pre-hispanic ruins of the Pilkokaina temple and walk on a path that leads to Yumani Hill. We will climb down the Inca's stairs see the fountain of Three Waters (Tres Aguas) on the way.
From Yumani hill you can view the tacanas (agricultural terraces). The tacanas are a traditional method of cultivation used by the inhabitants of the Sun Island (Isla del Sol) since the time of the Incas.
After basking in the energy of the Sun Island (Isla del Sol), we will return to the town of Copacabana. You can choose to travel to La Paz city or to return to Puno.
