Location of the tour
The tour takes place in the town of Copacabana, located about 155 kilometers form La Paz on the shores of Lake Titicaca. During the tour you will also visit Isla del Sol (Sun Island) located in the south part of Lake Titicaca, a kilometer from the village of Yumani.Tour Itinerary:
Pickup from your Hotel in the city of La Paz in private 4x4 vehicle. We begin the trip towards the town of Copacabana, travelling through the altiplano for about 3 hours and a half.
We pass the Tiquina strait and later arrive at Copacabana, located on the shores of the mystical Titicaca lake.
Visit to the Basilica of Copacabana, built in renaissance style to worship the Virgen of the Candelaria - Virgen Morena - whose chapel is always open and part of the most visited pilgrimage site in Bolivia.
Later we leave for Copacabana port, where we board a shared motorboat that takes us to the south side of the Isla del Sol (Sun Island). This mystical place is also known as the cradle of life by the inca culture and its descendents.
Once at the Isla del Sol, we begin our trek on the staris that lead to the Pilkokaina Temple or the House of the Inca. According to legend, the Inca stayed here during his visits to the Sun Island. Close to the peak we find the Three Waters spring (fuente de las Tres aguas), better known as the Fuente del Inca (Spring of the Inca): a legendary fresh water spring.
We will walk on the Escalinatas del Inca (Stairs of the Inca, 205 stone steps) and pass near the tacanas: traditional agricultural terraces of the locals on the SunIsland since the times of the Inca Empire.
Return to La Paz.
