This expedition tour will take you on a discovery of the remote Madidi National Park's natural wonders, rainforest and rivers. Enjoy night canoe rides, walk on natural paths and be amazed by the diverse wildlife in the heart of the Bolivian Amazon.
Location of the tour
The tour covers the natural paths in the Madidi National Park and the nearby Tuichi River valley in the Bolivian Amazon Basin.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 0: La Paz - Rurrenabaque

Flight from La Paz (El Alto International Airport) to Rurrenabaque. The flight takes approximately 45 minutes. The flight offers an opportunity to appreciate the Andeans Mountain range, the Amazon rainforest and rivers from the air.

The personnel will be waiting at Rurrenabaque Airport to transfer you to the offices where you will fill out the entrance forms to the Madidi National Park and will receive information about your trip to the Chalalan Eco Lodge.

Lodging at a tourist class Hotel in Rurrenabaque town.
Free Afternoon in Rurrenabaque town.
Day 1 Rurrenabaque - Chalalan Eco Lodge
07:00 Early in the morning you will enjoy a continental breakfast at the Hotel in Rurrenabaque town.
07:30 The guide will pick you up to transfer you to the Beni river shore where you will board a motor boat towards Chalalan Eco Lodge.
The boats have comfortable chairs, life vests, first aid kit, raincoats or ponchos. The maximum capacity of the boat is 10 people.
07:45 Travel in a comfortable motor boat towards Chalalan Eco lodge. Along the journey you will observe the natural landscapes of Bala Gorge on the Beni River and later the Madidi by the Tuichi river. It is recommended to use the binoculars to observe the fauna and the spectacular Bolivian Amazon landscapes. The journey takes approximately 5 hours and a half during the rainy season. During the dry season, mainly July, August and September the trip takes approximately six hours.
11:30 Box lunch or tapeque at half way.
14:00 Arrival to Chalalan Port. 25 minute guided walk on the Jaguar path towards Chalalan Eco Lodge. Upon arrival you will enjoy a welcome snack at the Chalalan Lagoon shore. Lodging in cabins or rooms.
14:30 Welcome lunch at Chalalan Eco Lodge. After lunch you will have the opportunity to swim in the Chalalan Lagoon or simply relax in the hammocks.
16:00 You will take a short walk on the Paraba path where the guide will explain the natural structure and uses of the forest, the traditional use of the palm trees and sustainability of the natural resources.
Arrival at the Chalalan Lagoon view point. From here you will observe the beautiful Chalalan Lagoon landscape and the vast tropical jungle of the Madidi. At the View Point the guide will explain about the indigenous communities, the Madidi National Park and the Eco lodge.
Return to the Chalalan Lagoon to watch the sunset and observe the fauna: monkeys, birds, insects and bats.
Return to the Eco Lodge where you will taste a traditional snack.
19:30 Dinner in the Eco Lodge Dining room.
20:30 Short Night walk on the Paraba or Silbador Path to observe amphibians, reptiles, insects, spiders, rodents, night birds and monkeys. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest at night.
Day 2: Chalalan Eco Lodge - Madidi National Park
07:00 Buffet breakfast (the breakfast hour can be adjusted to 05:30 a.m. for an early bird watching)
07:30 Trekking on the Tapacare path to observe and learn about the forest and wildlife. Optional theme: interpretation of the woods, fauna behavior and bird watching.
Return to the Eco lodge to enjoy a snack.
12:30 Lunch in the Eco lodge dining area. After breakfast you will have free time to relax or swim in the lagoon.
16:00 In the afternoon you will make a short walk on the theme paths and learn about medicinal plants and the rainforest.
Return to the Eco lodge for a snack. The tourists will have the opportunity to choose between the following activities: handicrafts afternoon, swimming, canoeing on the lagoon, relaxation by the lagoon, video presentation about the Madidi National Park and the indigenous communities.
19:30 Traditional dinner "dunucuabi": river fish wrapped in heliconias leaves or Tacuara fish traditionally prepared inside a typical bamboo of the Bolivian Amazon area.
20:30 Short night activities by the lagoon or trekking on the Paraba path.
Return to the Eco Lodge to enjoy a traditional Quechua - Tacana night with music and local dances of the San Jose de Uchupiamonas community. During this activity the guide will explain the traditional rituals of the Uchupaimonas.
*The traditional night depends of the number of participants in the Eco lodge and this activity is available at any time during your stay at Chalalan Eco lodge.
Day 3: Chalalan Eco lodge - Madidi National Park
06:30 Buffet breakfast at Chalalan Eco lodge.
07:00 All day walk (6 hours) on the Anta, Wabucuro and Marimono paths towards the Eslabon River. During this activity you will have the opportunity to practice fishing and swim in natural pools in the river, especially along dry season.
Box lunch at the Eslabon camp.
Wildlife observation e.g.: spider monkeys, tapirs, deers, wild pigs, wild cats and more.
17:30 Arrival at the Eco Lodge and snack. Optional: relaxing by the lagoon or swimming.
19:30 Dinner at the Eco lodge.
20:30 After dinner you can choose between the optional activities: Night canoe boat to watch caimans, night birds, bats, monkeys. During the night the sky offers an amazing starry view.
Day 4: Chalalan Eco Lodge - Rurrenabaque - La Paz
07:00 Buffet reakfast, short walk towards Chalalan port to board the motor boat and return to Rurrenabaque town.
08:30 Boat trip towards Rurrenabaque town (3 hours). The return schedule depends on boat availability and the tourist flight schedules.
12:00 Arrival to Rurrenabaque town and transfer to the Airport.
