The Umajalanta Cavern is 4600 meters long. The majestic entrance is approximately 20 meters high and 30 meters wide, the cavern structure is formed by calcareous rock, sandstone and plaster.
A river runs through the heart of Umajalanta Cavern, disappearing in the darkness. This unusual place offers to its visitors impressive subterranean views of stalagmites and stalactites.
Umajalanta is a Quechua word that means: water lost in the darkness of the deepest earth. The cavern is formed by huge bolts and galleries united by narrow paths. The interior of Umajalanta acquires fanciful shapes named: the concert hall, the virgin and child hall, the weeping willow and the Christmas tree. These create a path of amazing and ancient rock spectacles that lead to the biggest hall that houses a small lagoon or spring inhabitated by blind silver fish. Umajalanta Cavern is without any doubt a destination not to be missed in the Toro Toro National Park.
