This 3 day tour will take you to the highlights of Torotoro. This lesser visited part of Bolivia is best known for its well preserved dinosaur footprints but the region also offers a lot of other attractions.

Itinerary:

DAY 1: Cochabamba - Torotoro - Chiflon Q'aqa - Caba�as Umajalanta Hotel

05:00 Meeting in the private bus that will be waiting for us in the bus terminal of the city of Cochabamba.

06:00 Departure to the town of Torotoro

The Torotoro National Park is 148 kms from the city of Cochabamba. During the trip we will observe a variety of landscapes, from 2,000 to up to 3,500 meters above sea level, making small stops to rest and take pictures.

10:00 Approx. We will make the second stop on the Caine River bridge.

The Caine River is the natural border between the departments of Cochabamba and Potos�. In this place we will observe a wonderful landscape worthy of being photographed.

11:00 Arrival to Torotoro. (Registration of the group in the protected area)

11:30 Welcome lunch

12:30 Entrance to Chifl�n Q'aqa, where we can do the rappel activity and enjoy wonderful landscapes.

In the town of Torotoro there are trails which guide us to Chiflon Q'aqa a cave and a waterfall where we can Rappel at a height of about 20 meters. At the end of the activity you can enjoy several natural pools that are formed by the currents of the Chiflon waterfall.

The Umajalanta Cabins are a community-based enterprise that is organized and managed by the community itself, where there is a model of fair and equitable redistribution of income.

DAY 2: Caba�as Hotel - City of Itas - Caba�as - Umajalanta Caverns - Caba�as Umajalanta Hotel.

08:00 Buffet Breakfast at the hotel "Caba�as Umajalanta"

09:00 Departure towards the stone city "Itas".

The stone city "Itas" is an hour's drive from the town of Torotoro and at an altitude of approx. of 3900 meters above sea level. In this place you can observe an impressive landscape and we will walk through different paths surrounded by giant stones and capricious rock formations carved by the passage of water millions of years ago.

12:00 Return to the hotel "Caba�as Umajalanta"

12:30 Lunch at the hotel "Caba�as Umajalanta" and rest (30 minutes in the cabins).

14:30 Departure towards the caves of Umajalanta that are 5 minutes from the hotel.

We enter the caves of Umajalanta, making a tour of its interior of approx. 2 hours and a half, observing stalagmites and stalactites as well as a small underground lake, where the blind fish live.

6:00 PM Return to the hotel "Caba�as Umajalanta".

19:30 Dinner

21:00 Break.

DAY 3: Hotel Caba�as Umajalanta - Huayllas - Ca�on / Vergel - Cochabamba

08:00 Breakfast at the hotel "Caba�as Umajalanta"

09:00 Pick up luggage from the hotel to visit the latest attraction.

09:30 Departure and start of trekking to the Torotoro canyon.

Start of trekking: on the way we will stop at the foothills of the Wayllas Hill to observe the petrified footprints of the most representative dinosaurs of the park. Next, we will visit a series of natural attractions such as the stone bridge, the stone theater until we reach the viewpoint of the Torotoro canyon. Later we descend by the stone stairs to the interior of the canyon (40 minutes of walk), until arriving at a paradisiacal place with cascades and natural pools called the Vergel (orchard).

14:00 Farewell lunch at the pastry "El Vergel"

15:30 Departure to the city of Cochabamba.

20:00 Arrival at the city of Cochabamba.

  • At least 1 long-sleeved shirt is recommended to visit the national park to avoid mosquito bites and sunburn.
  • Warm clothes in case of sudden cold weather (Surazo). 1 jacket and 1 pair of sweaters is enough.
  • Camera with enough space and charge. There is electricity in the hotel to charge the cameras.

Torotoro travel tips:

Torotoro belongs to the department of Potos�. Since it is an inter-Andean valley, it is a place with a warm but dry climate. The temperature tends to fall suddenly, so it is advisable to wear light clothing and also bring warm clothing.

Torotoro has a grocery store to buy different basic products.

There is only ENTEL telephone service. There are no public internet points.

Torotoro has a basic medical center, but no pharmacies.

It is important to clarify that for the entrance to the Umajalanta cavern good physical condition is needed, since it has a medium-high degree of risk. Regarding the other attractions, they are of low-medium level, since they are approximately 2 to 3 hours long, depending on the pace at which the group advances.

Torotoro National Park, Bolivia.

While technically it is located in Potos� department, Torotoro is much more easily accessed from the city of Cochabmaba.

Private transportation or shared tourist buses are required to to get this this remote but beautiful place.
