If you would like more than a standard lunch break (such as a 3 to 4-hour sightseeing stop in Potosí to visit the historic mint or city center), we can arrange a customized layover itinerary for a modest driver waiting fee. Your luggage remains securely locked inside the vehicle while you explore.
Yes. The entire 365 km route is fully paved asphalt (Ruta 21 from Uyuni to Potosí, and Ruta 5 from Potosí to Sucre). It is in good condition year-round.
Leaving Uyuni (3,656 m / 12,000 ft), the road climbs gently over the mountain pass near Potosí (4,090 m / 13,418 ft) before winding continuously downhill into the temperate valley of Sucre (2,810 m / 9,219 ft). Every vehicle is equipped with an emergency oxygen tank should you need it during the high-altitude stretch.

Comfortable transportation
For small groups, we use a tourist minivan. Vehicles are maintained for tourism operations.
Your driver speaks Spanish. Most drivers have basic conversational English for simple directions and timing, but the journey itself doesn't require much conversation — your driver knows the route and will get you there comfortably. If you have specific requests or concerns before the trip, note them in the Special Requirements field when booking and we'll brief your driver in advance.

Standard capacity allows one large suitcase/duffle (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs) plus one daypack per passenger. If you are traveling with bulky expedition gear, multiple extra bags, or oversize items, let us know beforehand so we dispatch a minivan with a roof rack.
