Travel directly between the Uyuni Salt Flat and La Paz along 100% paved Andean highways (Ruta 30 & Ruta 1). This private, door-to-door daytime service eliminates the discomfort of freezing overnight buses and the unpredictability of regional flight cancellations.
Your driver collects you directly from your salt hotel in Uyuni and brings you straight to your hotel or El Alto International Airport (LPB) in La Paz.
Road Reality & Cabin Tip: The Altiplano is dry, bright, and windy. Keep drinking water, lip balm, sunglasses, and an easily accessible fleece jacket inside the passenger cabin—do not pack all your warm layers away in the luggage hold.

Rates are per vehicle (not per person) and cover all highway tolls, fuel, driver expenses, and luggage handling. Pickups from edge-of-salt hotels in Colchani are not included. Altitude — the one thing that catches people off guard
La Paz itself sits at 3,640 m, but El Alto — the plateau city where your transfer arrives from the highway and where the airport is — sits at 4,000 m. Even travelers who felt fine in Uyuni (3,656 m) sometimes feel the altitude again after a long day of travel. Plan a quiet first evening. Drink water, skip the wine, and don't try to cram in sightseeing the same afternoon you arrive. By the next morning, most people feel fine.
La Paz is the natural base for several of Bolivia's most important sites:
- Lake Titicaca and Copacabana — 3.5 hours by road. The world's highest navigable lake and the gateway to Isla del Sol. We can arrange a private transfer to Copacabana or a guided Lake Titicaca tour.
- Tiwanaku — 70 km, 1.5 hours each way. Best done with a guide.

The drive takes between 8 and 9 hours depending on traffic and your chosen stop in Oruro. The 540 km route follows a fully paved Altiplano highway the entire way. We recommend departing Uyuni at 7:00 AM — this gets you into La Paz between 3:00 and 4:00 PM, avoiding rush-hour traffic on the El Alto descent.
Yes. The entire 540 km from Uyuni to La Paz via Oruro follows paved national highway. There are no dirt sections or unpaved stretches. The road is well-maintained year-round, though occasional fog or rain on the Altiplano may slow the pace slightly. Your driver is experienced on this route and adjusts accordingly.
Per vehicle. The $450 rate covers your entire group — up to 4 passengers in a private 4×4 SUV. For groups of 5 or 6, the minivan rate is $495 per vehicle. Both rates include all highway tolls, fuel, and door-to-door service. Tips for your driver are appreciated but not included.
We recommend leaving between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. This lets you drive in full daylight, stop for snacks in Caracollo around noon, and arrive in La Paz by late afternoon before the peak evening commuter rush in El Alto.
Yes — but there is an additional charge of $35 USD for pickups from hotels located in Colchani village, as they sit approximately 20 km from Uyuni town on the edge of the Salt Flat. The standard rate covers pickups from hotels within Uyuni town and from Uyuni Airport. Please note your hotel name in the Pickup Location field when booking.
Yes. El Alto International Airport is a standard drop-off point and is included in the rate. If you have a flight to catch, tell us your departure time when booking so we can plan the departure from Uyuni accordingly and ensure you arrive with comfortable time to spare. We generally recommend at least 3 hours buffer for international departures from El Alto.
Yes. Caracollo is located roughly halfway between Uyuni and La Paz and makes a natural stopping point — around 20 minutes for a snack, a coffee, and restrooms before continuing north. There is no additional charge for this stop. If you have other requests — a roadside photo stop, — just tell your driver.
Your driver speaks Spanish. Most drivers have basic conversational English for simple directions and timing, but the journey itself doesn't require much conversation — your driver knows the route and will get you there comfortably. If you have specific requests or concerns before the trip, note them in the Special Requirements field when booking and we'll brief your driver in advance.

Standard capacity allows one large suitcase/duffle (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs) plus one daypack per passenger. If you are traveling with bulky expedition gear, multiple extra bags, or oversize items, let us know beforehand so we dispatch a minivan with a roof rack.
