The entire route is fully paved and in good condition. You will travel from the warm, oxygen-rich valley of Sucre, winding up through the green valleys of the Pilcomayo River and the mining foothills of Potosí, before ascending to the high-altitude plains of the Altiplano.

- Altitude Awareness: This trip involves a significant altitude gain. You will ascend from Sucre at 2,810 m (9,219 ft) to a mountain pass near Potosí at 4,090 m (13,418 ft), before descending slightly to Uyuni at 3,656 m (12,000 ft). We recommend staying hydrated and moving slowly. An emergency oxygen kit is available in every vehicle.
- Luggage Policy: Our standard capacity allows for one large suitcase/duffle (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs) and one daypack per passenger. If you have extra bags or bulky expedition gear, please let us know when booking so we can assign a vehicle with more space (like a minivan with a roof rack).
- Lunch & Rest Stop in Potosí: Your driver can stop for 45–60 minutes in the historic city of Potosí for lunch, restroom use, and a brief rest. If you wish to make a longer sightseeing stop (e.g., to visit the Casa de la Moneda), we can arrange a customized layover for a modest driver waiting fee. Please let us know in advance.

Yes. Alcantarí Airport is situated 30 km south of Sucre, directly on the highway towards Potosí. We meet you at the arrivals gate with a name sign and drive directly toward Uyuni, saving you more than an hour by bypassing downtown Sucre entirely. The extra charge to arrange the Airport pick up is 35 USD.
We recommend departing between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. This ensures you complete the entire mountain drive in broad daylight, and arrive in Uyuni around 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM to settle in before your salt flat tours begin.
Yes. If you would like more than a standard lunch break (such as a 3 to 4-hour sightseeing stop in Potosí to visit the historic mint or city center), we can arrange a customized layover itinerary for a modest driver waiting fee. Your luggage remains securely locked inside the vehicle while you explore.
