United States

Group 1: As of December 20, 2019, U.S. citizens no longer need a visa to enter Bolivia for tourism. Entry is granted for 30, 60, or 90 days at the discretion of the Bolivian immigration officer at the port of entry. The maximum period of stay for tourists is 90 calendar days per year.

China

Group 2:

Nationals of China (including Macau and Hong Kong) can obtain a single entry visa on arrival for 90 days. The fee of 30 USD also applies when the visa is obtained in advance at the embassy or consulate. Can get visa on arrival at airport or land checkpoints as indicated by the Bolivian Embassy in Beijing. Visa exemption applies to holders of passports for public affairs issued by China.

Group 1: As of December 20, 2019, U.S. citizens no longer need a visa to enter Bolivia for tourism. Entry is granted for 30, 60, or 90 days at the discretion of the Bolivian immigration officer at the port of entry. The maximum period of stay for tourists is 90 calendar days per year.

Citizens (ordinary passport holders) of specific countries and territories are eligible to visit Bolivia for tourism or business purposes without having to obtain a visa. Citizens of most South American countries can enter Bolivia with their valid ID card. Note that all business travellers and persons wishing to stay longer than 90 days in a year must obtain a visa in advance.

Passports must be valid for six months beyond the date of entry.

There are 3 groups of countries: countries whose citizens do not require a visa (Group 1), countries whose citizens must obtain a visa prior to entry for free, or upon arrival for a fee (Group 2), and countries whose citizens must obtain visa in advance with special authorization (Group 3).

Group 1: Countries that do not require a tourist visa:

All European Union citizens, including all classes of British nationality, except for nationals of Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta and Romania who must obtain visa on arrival.

The permitted length of stay is 90 days annually, with an initial maximum period of 30 days that can be extended free of charge.

Holders of diplomatic or service passports of any country except Israel do not require a visa. Visa exemption also applies to holders of passports for public affairs issued by China.

Group 2: Countries which are required to apply for a tourist visa without previous consultation. If you apply for the visa at the border, a fee will be charged. Group 2 visa requirements

VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR US CITIZENS

You may obtain the visa in advance at any Bolivian Embassy or Consulate (recommended), or upon arrival.

This entry VISA is valid for ten (10) years from the date of issue and permits staying in Bolivia for 90 days per year. The requirements are the following:

  1. Fill and sign a Sworn Statement form. This sworn statement will require you to upload all the following requirements. The picture must be scanned in a .jpg format while the other requirements will be in .pdf format. They must not exceed 500Kb. Once you complete this task, you must send all the paperwork along the payment and the return envelope.
  2. Valid Passport for at least six (6) months, make sure there are available pages for the VISA sticker.
  3. One (1) picture, full color passport size.
  4. Copy of your hotel reservation or invitation letter from relatives or friends including the city/address and length of your stay.
  5. Copy of the flight ticket or the tour itinerary.
  6. The last Checkings, Savings or Credit Card Statement.
  7. The VISA fee is 160 USD (One hundred and sixty 00/100 US dollars).

TOURIST VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR COUNTRIES QUALIFIED AS GROUP II

Travelers, who are from Countries qualified as Group 2, must apply for a tourist VISA prior to entry into Bolivia.

This VISA is valid for thirty (30) days from the date of entry, it will work for a single entry and it cannot be obtained upon arrival. This VISA has no fee (FREE), except when obtained at the border.

  1. Fill and sign the Sworn Statement form. This sworn statement will require you to upload all the following requirements. The picture must be scanned in a .jpg format not exceeding 150kb while the other requirements will be in .pdf format. They must not exceed 500Kb. Once you complete this task, you must send all the paperwork along with the payment and the return envelope.
  2. Valid Passport for at least six (6) months, make sure there are available pages to stamp the VISA sticker.
  3. One (1) picture, full color Passport size.
  4. Copy of the hotel reservation or invitation letter from relatives or friends including the city/address and staying period.
  5. Copy of your flight ticket or the tour itinerary.
  6. Copy of your Bank or Credit Card statement.
  7. Visa fee of 30 USD ONLY for CHINA (Along with Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau) and IRAN

Processing time: Usually up to 5 business days

VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR COUNTRIES QUALIFIED AS GROUP III

Travelers who are from Countries qualified as Group 3, must apply for a tourist VISA prior to the trip.

This VISA is valid for thirty (30) days from the date of entry, it will work for a single entry and it cannot be obtained upon arrival.

  1. Fill and sign the Sworn Statement form. This sworn statement will require the applicant to upload all the following requirements. The picture must be scanned in a .jpg format while the other requirements will be in .pdf format. They must not exceed 500Kb. Once you complete this task, you must send all the paperwork along with the payment and the return envelope.
  2. Valid Passport for at least six (6) months, make sure there are available pages for the VISA sticker.
  3. One (1) picture, full color Passport size.
  4. Copy of the Hotel reservation or invitation letter from relatives or friends including the city/address and period of your stay.
  5. Copy of your flight ticket or the tour itinerary.
  6. Copy of your Bank or Credit Card statement.
  7. International Certificate of your Yellow fever vaccine.
  8. Police record issued by the Police Department where you live.
  9. The VISA fee is 30 USD (thirty 00/100 US dollars).

Procedure:

  1. You must send all the paperwork required in copies or via email.
  2. The Consular officer will prepare and send an official request to the National Migration Service in Bolivia in order to get the approval. This process may take up to three (3) months.
  3. Once the National Migration Service responds to the request, the Consular Officer will contact you to let you know whether it is approved or denied.
